What is Mission Chest Style?
Due to its distinctive qualities and unique design, mission furniture style is quite easy to identify. This style earned its name “mission” due to the fact that it was supposedly based off of furniture that was found in the Franciscan missions in California. It was not until the early 1900’s that the mission style became quite popular.
A unique aspect of mission furniture is that most mission style furniture pieces are specifically made from oak wood. With its simple, straight lines, mission furniture gives off an air of simplicity and quality. Most of the time, mission furniture is built with a square Marlborough leg. Since most of the furniture is chunky, flat, or squared, the overall look of the mission furniture is solid and heavy. In fact, most people consider it to be more of a masculine furniture style.
Uses for Mission Chest
Storage
With its straight lines and simple design, this farmhouse style chest will make a statement anywhere in your house. You can use it to store your family heirlooms or just to keep your extra blankets and pillows. In addition, with its standard cedar bottom, our mission chest is prepared to protect your most valuable items. Cedar is especially effective in protecting your belonging from any insects and fungi, especially any wool clothing that you might have.
Coffee Table and End Table
Our farmhouse style chest is also the perfect piece you need in your living room that can double as a coffee table or end table. Since all four sides of the mission chest are finished the same, it will look fantastic regardless of where you want to place it. With its simple, sturdy design, this farmhouse style chest is the perfect piece you need to store your extra blankets, magazines, and any extra belongings. Also, our vintage style steamer trunks work well to display your newest books, magazines, and hold your favorite coffee mug.
Features of the Mission Chest
Cedar Bottom
Each of our wooden chests is made from solid oak. With our farmhouse style mission chest, you have two options to choose from – red oak and quarter sawn white oak. Also, each our mission chest also comes with a cedar bottom designed to protect your belongings. In addition, with several options of stain colors to choose from, you can find the perfect color chest that works for you.
Cedar Sliding Tray
Like most of our chests, our mission farmhouse chest comes with an optional cedar sliding tray just inside the lid. With a smaller tray, you will be able to easily access some of your smaller items. No more do you have to search for those smaller items hiding in the depths of the chest. Place your smaller items in the sliding tray, and your chest will stay organized like never before.
Customizable Engraved Name Plate
If you would like to add a personalized touch to your farmhouse chest, you can add a customizable engraved name plate inside the lid of the chest. You can write a simple name or someone’s name if you choose to give the chest as a gift. Each name plate is made to stand the test of time so that generations to come will be able to enjoy this handcrafted heirloom!

Excellent product, high quality, great workmanship, solid. Quicker turnaround time than expected, thanks! Had a small amount of damage to the lid, but they were very eager to make it right, even though damage wasn’t noticed at time of delivery. Thanks again!
This is our second purchase from an Amish Furniture Broker. Both have been wonderful and the furniture will become family heirlooms.

We wanted a medium-sized chest to hold blankets and comforters, as well as double as a seat to lay out clothes or sit on. A good well-joined piece of furniture should last a lifetime and look great for many years.
The craftsmanship on the Mission Chest is outstanding. The cuts in the quarter-sawn oak are clean and tight and the artistry in selecting and matching the complex grain is evident. We chose the Salem stain which nicely brings out the grain contrast while leaving a medium dark finish overall, a good choice in a room with other mixed wood furniture. The quality hardware is plenty heavy for the lid and does not allow the lid to accidentally fall when fully open. The tray insert is a perfect fit and will be useful for small linens like extra pillow covers.
Everything about dealing with Amish Hand Crafted was a pleasure. The chest was completed and shipped exactly on schedule, and it came carefully crated in a heavy carton to withstand the coast-to-coast trip.
