History of the Waterfall Chest Style
The waterfall style chest gets its name from the smooth rounded “waterfall” style lid. With smooth curves and a simplistic look, these waterfall chests will add a great dimension to any spot in your house.
The waterfall style furniture was first created by a company in Grand Rapids Michigan around 1930. In the 1930’s it was the most popular style furniture around, and it became the most chic design of its time. Due to its basic, simple design and affordability, waterfall furniture became the most popular furniture option for the common people to use. Although waterfall style furniture was not the most popular style for very long, today it has become one of the most common simplistic vintage styles of furniture you will see.

Waterfall Chest Wood Types
The waterfall chest is available in 4 different wood types – oak, maple, cherry, and cedar. In addition, each chest is built with a cedar bottom regardless of the wood type that you choose. Also, the oak, maple, and cherry wooden chests come with an option to add cedar lining to the inside. So if you like the look of the oak, cherry, or maple chest, you can add cedar lining to the inside of the chest for additional storage benefits. Even though the wood types may vary, each chest is expertly built to last with a waterfall style lid and a scalloped foot design.
Features of Waterfall Style Chest
Lock and Spring Loaded Hinge
Each of the waterfall chests is built with a working lock and spring-loaded lid supports to keep the lid from falling shut. You can also choose to include a sliding cedar tray inside the lid of the chest. A sliding cedar tray is specifically designed to hold some of your smaller valuables. Then you will able to find certain items without having to rummage through the whole trunk.
Charming Engraved Front Design
Like all of our other chests and trunks, you can choose to make your chest a little more unique or special. You can choose from one of the many engraved chest front designs. Also, you can even add a special note on a customizable engraved name plate. The name plate will then be applied to the inside of the lid of your trunk for a special personal touch!

“I have just received my order from Amish Hand Crafted. When I placed the order back in May, Josh said I should receive my order around the first part of July. The shipment arrived on the 7th of July. The packaging was more than ample to insure the trunks would arrive safely and undamaged. I must say the website pictures of the Amish Crafted products do not do justice to the actual items. I ordered a custom made Steamer Trunk and a Newport Large Waterfall Cherry Chest. Both of these chest were far greater than my expectations ever imagined. The detail of the design on the Newport is amazing. I ordered the Bing Cherry stain, WOW is putting my reaction mildly. On opening the chest, the natural smell of the cedar lined interior was overwhelming. The dovetailing shows how superb the craftsmanship of this chest is. The finish is flawless. My Steamer Trunk is of the same quality craftsmanship as the Chest, again the picture does not do justice to the actual Steamer Truck, the maple finish with old world distressing is impeccable. Both of these came with an engraved name plate. The products produced by Amish is a testament to “Made In America”, their craftsmanship is above reproach. My order was a phone in, I spoke to Josh personally about what I wanted and he fulfilled all of those wants to the letter. My chest arrived packaged very well and in superb condition. The quality is outstanding and matches my bedroom set perfectly. I chose no extras in the chest build. My only suggestion would be to leave it open for a few days before putting items inside as the sealer needs time to set properly and dispense of it’s odor. The cedar bottom will then take over.

The Summerfall Medium Chest is exquisite. I expected a beautiful, well-made piece, and that is exactly what I got!! It was minutely inspected and found to be without flaw; the perfect heirloom piece. Perfect. The sliding drawer is smoothly operated, and just the right size; the casters roll very easily and are virtually invisible!! I recommend adding those to any piece, hands down.

As a surprise gift to my wife for our 10th anniversary I decided to purchase a well-made, solid wood cedar hope chest. After reading the reviews I knew I made the right choice, although I already had one ordered through E-bay from another seller!! ..Uggh.
I was amazed by the selection of styles, wood, designs and stains that I could select from. I was even able to get special detailing of “oval roses” hand crafted on the front panel of the chest.
The detailed art was truly demonstrated in the hope chest. The experienced and talented artist has shown his pride through his craftsmanship. It is a stunning piece of art. We are both so VERY pleasantly pleased.
The packaging was impeccable as well; I never saw anything wrapped so securely not a scratch or flaw on the hope chest.

My wife recieved this today at the house. While the Jumbo size is certainly larger than I had envisioned, the craftsmanship is simply spectacular. The dovetails in the corners fit is perfection, the Cedar lining tight as a dish; but, above all, the engraving of the roses on the front of the chest are absolutely stunning to behold. I ordered the jumbo oak waterfall trunk. Josh was great to work with on the order, especially since I wanted the dovetails and quartersawn oak rather than regular oak. They were great on communication, letting me know the status of my order, and when it shipped by Fedex ground.
It arrived packed well, encased in padded cardboard on a small shipping pallet. Even the jumbo size was still able to fit through doorways to get it inside where I unpacked it.
Definitely a great item, and I look forward to using it for many years to come!
