History of Blanket Chest

In colonial days, blanket boxes could be seen everywhere. Since most houses lacked closets of any kind, most people turned to blanket boxes to store their blankets and extra clothes. Also, since their basements were often cold and damp and the attic spaces hard to reach, blanket boxes reigned supreme in the houses. Most people kept their blanket boxes at the foot of their bed so that the blankets could be easily accessed on cold, chilly nights. Eventually, more features were added to the blanket chests such as drawers, metal handles, and locks. Although today most houses have nicer basements, attics, and closet spaces, blanket boxes are still commonly used today as a popular way to store blankets, winter clothes, and extra linens.
Uses for Blanket Chest
Store Blankets
Everyone loves to have extra blankets in the living room at home. But what do you do with them when you are not using them? A blanket chest is the perfect place to put your extra blankets to keep them organized and easily accessible. And besides, with a space especially designated for all those extra blankets, you can keep your house looking clean, tidy, and organized when your friends come over for the evening.

Practical Gift Idea
If you already have a chest for yourself, why not give one of our blanket boxes to a friend? A blanket chest is the perfect practical gift you can give that your friends will definitely use. Maintaining a clean house will always be a battle that we fight, and your friends will thank you for helping them organize their house.
Blanket Chest Wood Types
In our blanket box selection, you can choose to have your chest made of oak, cherry, or solid cedar. If you choose to have your wood box made of oak or cherry, you can also select from 9 stains colors to achieve the perfect color for your blanket box.

Also, you can choose to add an optional sliding cedar tray to go inside the lid. A cedar sliding tray is specifically designed to hold your smaller personal items and to consolidate them in one spot to keep them from getting lost in the depths of your chest. In addition, if you prefer the look of oak or cherry over cedar, you can also add cedar lining to the inside of your blanket chest. Cedar lining will help to achieve some of the unique benefits that a cedar chest has to offer. Or, choose to have your blanket chest made out of solid cedar wood to get the cedar appearance, the special aromatic cedar smell, and have a true cedar experience.

Features of the Blanket Box

Working lock and Spring-Loaded Hinge
Each of our blanket boxes came standard with a working lock and spring-loaded hinges for the lid. A working lock gives you the option to keep special items safe inside your blanket box. If you have small children, a working lock also gives you the option to lock the box to keep them from playing inside the box and creating potential danger. With a spring-loaded hinge, you no longer have to worry about the lid crashing down on you when you are trying to find that special blanket. The standard spring-loaded hinge will keep your fingers safe and give you peace of mind.
Casters
In all of our blanket boxes, you can choose to add casters to the bottom of your box. With added casters, no longer do you have to worry about trying to lift or slide your blanket chest. Instead, simply push or pull your box to the location of your choice.

Customized Engraved Name Plate
One of our most unique features of our blanket boxes is the optional customized name plate. This name plate is specifically designed for you to write your name, date, or a simple saying to go inside the lid of your blanket box. With a customized name plate, your blanket chest will provide your future generations with a unique, personalized chest and give them a special piece just from you!
